Portland, OR — In the wake of yesterday’s ruling from Donald Trump’s conservative Supreme Court, which allowed the United States Postal Service to move forward with rules restricting vote by mail, Oregon Democrats have been quick to respond, denouncing Trump’s unconstitutional attack on our elections.
- “My message to the president is clear: Keep your hands off our elections,” said Governor Tina Kotek.
- “We’re certainly not going to let [Trump] decide who gets a ballot and who doesn’t,” said Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield.
- “We will continue to argue for the Constitution, which says clearly that states run elections, not the president,” said Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read.
But when reporters reached out to Christine Drazan’s campaign for comment, she refused to respond. Drazan has sought to overturn Oregon’s vote-by-mail system, despite reports that her campaign is including it as a key part of their strategy.
“Oregon has been a leader on vote by mail for decades, and we are grateful to have strong, Democratic leadership standing up to these attacks on our democracy,” said Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Nathan Soltz. “Meanwhile, Christine Drazan continues to duck accountability for her party’s extremist agenda. That’s not leadership, it’s cowardice plain and simple, and Oregonians deserve a leader who will stand up and defend their right to vote by mail.”
