Republican Governor Hopefuls Brace for a Hard Right Turn on Debate Stage

Apr 15, 2026

PORTLAND, OR – Tomorrow, GOP Governor candidates Ed Diehl, Christine Drazan, Chris Dudley, and Danielle Bethell will appear on-stage in a debate hosted by the Oregon GOP to attempt to win over Trump voters ahead of the May primary.

At a time where Oregonians need a leader who will stand up to Trump and the dangerous actions of his administration, every candidate tomorrow night must address some of the most pressing issues facing voters.

Ahead of the debate, here are some key questions that every Republican candidate must address:

  • Do you stand by Trump’s illegal and costly war in Iran, which puts American lives at risk while raising gas prices have increased by a dollar per gallon for Oregonians?
  • Why didn’t you stand up against Trump’s illegal tariffs, even though they have raised the prices of everyday goods for Oregonians?
  • Will you tell the Trump administration not to send masked federal agents into Oregon?
  • Why didn’t you stand up against Trump’s cuts to Medicaid and food assistance programs that took healthcare away from 210,000 Oregonians and endangered SNAP benefits for 424,000 families in Oregon?
  • Why do you support efforts from groups like Oregon Right to Life to restrict abortion access and reproductive rights?
  • Why do you support efforts to curb vote by mail in Oregon? Do you support the SAVE Act?
  • Have you sought the endorsement of Donald Trump? Would you accept an endorsement from Donald Trump?
  • Did you vote for Trump in any or all of the past three elections?

“Oregonians deserve to know if the people asking for their vote can actually defend this state and stand up to Trump,” said Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Nathan Soltz. “Democrats are fighting every day to lower costs and protect the services families rely on. The question is: will these Republicans stand with Oregonians – or cave to Trump’s every whim?”
