Statement from Democratic Party of Oregon Chair KC Hanson on Oregon Republican Walkout
"The Oregon Senate Republicans' behavior is a disgrace.
"It's a disgrace that they've chosen to forget the oath they took when they were sworn in to 'faithfully discharge the duties of State Senator' and walk off the job, denying representation to more than 1.5 million of their constituents and shutting down our democracy in the process.
"It's a disgrace that they've chosen to disregard the agreement Senate Republicans reached to end their last walkout, breaking their promise not to walk out again.
"It's a disgrace that they're choosing to ignore the results the 2018 election, when Oregonians re-elected Governor Kate Brown and elected a Democratic supermajority to the Oregon Senate who ran on a platform of taking strong action to fight the climate crisis.
"Finally, it's a disgrace — and frankly, dangerous and unacceptable — that at least one member of the Senate Republican Caucus has chosen to threaten the safety of lawmakers and Oregon State Police. We're still waiting on his Republican colleagues to condemn his words and actions.
"Oregon Senate Republicans: It's time to bring this disgraceful chapter to an end. Come back to Salem and do the jobs you were elected to do."
