Statement from DPO Chair Jeanne Atkins on final passage of Governor Brown's bill closing 'Intimate Partner Loophole'

PORTLAND — Jeanne Atkins, Chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon released the following statement upon passage of HB 4145 this afternoon:
"Today our Governor's leadership resulted in a significant legislative victory over the NRA and the Oregon gun lobby. Both the Oregon Senate and the Oregon House of Representatives voted to close a dangerous loophole in our laws — a loophole through which proven family abusers could get access to guns simply because they haven't married their victims."
"While Washington DC dithers around, our Governor continues to tackle serious issues and come up with common-sense solutions. And she knows how to get those solutions passed into law. I am proud to be an Oregonian today, and proud to be a supporter of Kate Brown."
