Portland, Ore — (January 31, 2012) – 

Portland, Ore. — Tonight, Meredith Wood Smith, Chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon, released the following statement on Suzanne Bonamici’s victory in the special election for Oregon’s 1st Congressional District:
 
“Oregonians have called on Suzanne Bonamici to serve, and it is with great pride that we’ll watch our new congresswoman get to work for the people of this district. Suzanne’s promise of new leadership resonated with voters who valued her unmatched integrity, passion for the issues and record of fighting for middle-class Oregon families and seniors.
 
"With this victory, the Democratic Party of Oregon once again delivered a commanding voter turnout operation, strengthening our national reputation for state-level field organizing. Our grassroots volunteers logged 2,282 shifts, and with our field organizers placed 315,109 calls and knocked on 142,209 doors across the 1st Congressional District.
 
"In Suzanne Bonamici, Northwest Oregon has elected the champion it deserves."
