Portland, Ore. (February 9, 2012) –

After opening the legislative session with the promise of good-faith bipartisanship, House Republicans’ decision to walk away from badly needed homeowner assistance has left many Oregonians questioning whether the party has anything but lip service to offer middle-class families.

“Thousands of Oregonians still face the very real threat of foreclosure, and Salem Republicans this week rejected critical legislation to keep middle-class families in their homes,” said Trent Lutz, Executive Director or the Democratic Party of Oregon. “The unavoidable question here is whether special interests and backroom politics played a role in this decision, and why a handful of Republican legislators felt compelled to abandon the many thousand Oregon families still struggling to keep their homes.”
