PORTLAND, Oregon (May 20, 2010) –

Wrapping up the primary campaign, Democrat’s are in a strong position in the first days of the general election. John Kitzhaber carried all counties in Oregon, showing strong support across the state, support he has earned and valued for years. In 1998 Kitzhaber carried 35 of Oregon’s 36 counties.

Kitzhaber controlled his spending and has a healthy campaign account to start the campaign, while Chris Dudley burned through the $1.4 million dollars he raised leaving his campaign with less than $21,000.

“We are thrilled with the position that Democrats are in to start the 2010 general election,” said Trent Lutz, DPO Executive Director. “While Chris Dudley is still becoming acquainted with Oregon, Kitzhaber’s vision and record of service has earned him strong statewide support.”

A look at some key results and figures from the primary campaign:

36 of 36: Counties carried by John Kitzhaber in 2010

35 of 36: Counties carried by John Kitzhaber in the 1998 general election

20: Counties carried by Dudley by more than 101 votes

27: total counties carried by Chris Dudley

237,319: Votes John Kitzhaber earned in the primary, nearly twice as many as Dudley

In fact, Kitzhaber received more votes that Dudley and Alley combined, 237,319 to their combined 217,618.

$179,374: Kitzhaber campaign cash on hand at the end of the primary

$20,227: Dudley’s cash on hand at the end of the primary, spending over 1.4 million dollars in the first 6 months of the year.
