PORTLAND, Oregon (March 22, 2010) –

Today the Democratic Party of Oregon launched a statewide radio campaign advising Oregonians about the three-dollar political party check-off on their tax returns. For the first time since 1981 Oregonians have the option to donate three dollars of their state tax return to the state political party of their choice.

To participate, individuals filing their 2009 taxes need to indicate which party they would like to contribute to on line 70 of Form 40. The three-dollar political check-off contributions go directly to the designated state party. This is especially significant with the recent Supreme Court decision to allow corporations — even foreign ones — to spend unlimited money in U.S. elections.

“The political check-off gives Oregonians the ability to invest in their values, and keeps our elections powered by the people, not wealthy special interests,” said Democratic Party Executive Director Trent Lutz.
