Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Meredith Wood Smith issued the following statement on the death of Ben Westlund:
“It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Ben Westlund. Ben’s kindness and energy is irreplaceable. Oregon has lost a great public servant, Ben always stood up for the good of the state, even when it was politically risky. His legacy will live on through the programs he fought for, including the Oregon Cultural Trust and the OSU Cascades Campus in Central Oregon. Through his commitment and tireless work he left Oregon a better place. Thank you Ben.
My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Libby, their 2 children, and the entire Westlund Family.”
