Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Carla “K.C.” Hanson released the following statement:

“After an election where record numbers of Oregonians and Americans exercised their right to vote, where more than 78 million Americans (and counting) voted to send Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the White House, and elected them by an Electoral College margin that Donald Trump himself would describe as “a landslide,” the Oregon GOP is refusing to accept reality, is continuing to parrot Trump’s lies, and is falling in line behind Trump’s undemocratic refusal to concede the election to President-elect Joe Biden.

“The Oregon GOP didn’t bat an eye when more than 150,000 voters were purged from Georgia voting rolls prior to 2018 — more than the population of Eugene. They said nothing when Republican judges across the country issued orders making it harder for people to vote during the COVID-19 pandemic. But now, knowing full well that clerks throughout Oregon and across America did their jobs well under exceptionally difficult conditions, the Oregon GOP is re-bleating Donald Trump’s pathetic sore loser whining.

“It’s sad that they have debased themselves to this public display. We would say they know better, but this is unfortunately par for the course from the Oregon GOP in the era of Trump.

“Oregon needs ALL its elected officials to meet the challenges we face with integrity, honesty and a real commitment to the people of Oregon. Oregon Democrats will continue to work to meet these challenges, and we hope that at some point our colleagues in the Oregon GOP will recognize that the needs of all Oregonians outweigh the needs of one man who will be vacating the White House on January 20th, 2021.”
