PORTLAND — Over a credentialed conference call earlier this week, Democrats approved a suspension of rules governing the appointment process for vacant Legislative seats to accommodate social distancing rules required by law.

Using secure mailed-in paper ballots, the 101 Precinct Committee Persons eligible to vote for the House District 33 appointee will select three names for consideration by the Washington and Multnomah County Commissions. The eventual appointee will serve out the remainder of the term of Rep. Mitch Greenlick, who served the district for 17 years and passed away earlier this month.

The deadline for candidates to submit interest in the HD 33 appointment is today, Friday, May 22nd at 5:00 p.m. and ballots will be sent Saturday, May 23rd. The deadline for HD 33 Precinct Committee Persons to submit ballots is June 3rd and ballots will be processed by the Democratic Party of Oregon the following day.

Full details and rules for the nomination process can be found here, where results will also be posted once ballots have been counted.
