A RESOLUTION OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF OREGON
RESOLUTION 2024-13
Regarding Adopting a Democratic Party of Oregon D.E.I. Mission Statement
WHEREAS, the Democratic Party of Oregon (DPO) recognizes that our strength lies in our differences; as a Party, we are committed to fostering an environment where every voice is heard, every perspective is valued, and every opportunity is accessible; and
WHEREAS, we believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to our efforts to create meaningful change within the state of Oregon, the United States, and across the world, especially in the areas of social justice, economic and educational opportunity, and environmental stewardship; and
WHEREAS, we boldly proclaim that diversity, equity, and full inclusion are not just goals, but the foundation upon which we recruit, support, and elect Democrats to represent all Oregonians and Americans; and
WHEREAS, we believe that our commitment to diversity and equity extends to every Oregonian, and that we must create a fully inclusive, accessible organization which reflects the interests and highest ideals of the diverse communities we serve.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF OREGON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. We will integrate the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all aspects of our mission, beliefs, values, policies, and actions, ensuring that we openly and consistently communicate these values in our words and deeds.
Section 2. We commit to creating a more equitable and just society where we actively teach, protect, and defend our human and civil rights, especially for those who are the most marginalized among us.
Section 3. We will hold public officials, elected leadership, and each other accountable for the adoption and implementation of DEI practices, ensuring that all leaders, volunteers, and staff members understand how and why DEI is actively being realized in this work.
Section 4. We will actively seek diverse perspectives to inform our strategies and decisions so that we can assure that we have done and will continue to do all we can to build a Party that effectively contributes to the strength of our State and the diverse communities we represent.
Section 5. We request that the DPO Rules Committee review the following DEI Mission Statement for addition to the DPO Bylaws, and we request that the Rules Committee includes in its review feedback from individuals and DPO Identity Caucuses:
Democratic Party of Oregon D.E.I. Mission Statement: We are committed to building a Democratic Party as diverse as the state we serve by ensuring everyone has an equal and accessible seat at the table, regardless of background or identity.
