Resolution 2022-10: Honoring the Life of Lawanda Joyce Manning

A RESOLUTION OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF OREGON

WHEREAS, Lawanda Joyce Manning was born on January 7, 1955 in Kansas City, Kansas;

WHEREAS, Lawanda Joyce Manning obtained her BS in Business from Southern New Hampshire University and MBA from Northwest Christian University (now Bushnell University). 

WHEREAS, Lawanda Joyce Manning formalized her marriage to the love of her life James Manning on March 18, 1983.

WHEREAS, Lawanda Joyce Manning served as Chief of Staff to her husband, Senator James Manning Jr. Senator Manning now serves as Senate Pro Tempore, the highest ranking Black elected in the state of Oregon. 

WHEREAS, Lawanda Joyce Manning was appointed by Governor Kate Brown to Chair of the Oregon Commission on Black Affairs

WHEREAS, throughout her personal life and professional career, Lawanda Joyce Manning earned the utmost respect of leading policymakers, educators, community leaders, activists, and colleagues all across Oregon and beyond;

WHEREAS, on June 11, 2021, Lawanda Joyce Manning passed away in Eugene, Oregon;  

WHEREAS, the Democratic National Committee adopted this resolution at it’s March 12, 2022 general session; 

NOW, THEREFORE, THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF OREGON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

We honor the life and legacy of Lawanda Joyce Manning for her contributions to our country, the state of Oregon and the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party of Oregon is thankful for her service and dedication. We continue to keep her and her family close to our hearts.
