Resolution 2018-009: Protecting Labor and Environment

A RESOLUTION OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF OREGON

WHEREAS, The Executive Committee of the Democratic National Committee unanimously passed a resolution on June 9, 2018, banning “contributions from political action committees representing the fossil fuel industry,”

WHEREAS, The Executive Committee of the Democratic National Committee on August 10, 2018 revised the resolution, stating that the DNC “will continue to welcome the longstanding and generous contributions of workers, including those in energy and related industries, who organize and donate to Democratic candidates individually or through their unions’ or employers’ political action committees,” and

WHEREAS, the State Central Committee of the Democratic Party of Oregon recognizes that the interests and concerns related to both labor and environment are important, and we strive to find solutions amenable to both interests, in the interest of the American people’s ability to secure both incomes to support their families and a sustainable environment for our future.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF OREGON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1: The interests of both Labor and Environment need to be supported and respected, and

Section 2: We request that the Democratic National Committee consider the interests of both Labor and Environment in the form of a new resolution at the full meeting of the DNC on August 23-25, 2018, or should that not be possible then at the next full meeting of the DNC, acknowledging the need to combat climate change as well as to protect working class families in the energy sector through support for additional green energy jobs.
