A RESOLUTION OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF OREGON
WHEREAS, ARTICLE 6 TRANSPORTATION, ENERGY & THE ENVIRONMENT Plank 1 of the 2016 Democratic Party of Oregon Platform states:
“We believe the peer-reviewed scientific evidence that climate change is a global emergency caused by human activities, and we must take immediate actions to reduce our negative impacts necessary for the survival of our species”
WHEREAS, ARTICLE 6 TRANSPORTATION, ENERGY & THE ENVIRONMENT Plank 2 of the 2016 Democratic Party of Oregon Platform states:
“We support peer-reviewed science-based local and national strategies to implement sustainable energy technologies to reduce and prevent the degradation of our life support systems, including our atmosphere, global food supplies, and ocean and fresh water resources as imperative for long-term economic stability.”
WHEREAS, ARTICLE 1 JOBS, BUSINESS & LABOR Plank 12 of the 2016 Democratic Party of Oregon Platform states:
“We support making it easier and more financially rewarding for business to invest in creating, well-paying, clean-energy jobs.”
WHEREAS, The 45th President has indicated he will pull the United States out of the Paris Climate Agreement and thus leave it up to the states to uphold our commitments
NOW, THEREFORE, THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF OREGON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. We support Governor Brown’s decision for Oregon to join with the United States Climate Alliance in upholding the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement and encourage state, county, city and local municipalities to work cooperatively to make Oregon a leader in reducing carbon emissions and adopting renewable energy technologies.
Section 2. Further urges the Governor to work with leaders in adopting a streamlined process for adopting renewable energy technologies to provide effective conservation of ecosystems while allowing for job creation via the sustainable development of renewable energy projects.
