Sponsored by: Nathan Soltz Approved: 11/22/2015

A RESOLUTION OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF OREGON

WHEREAS forcing those with state-recognized disabilities to travel great distances from their parking spot to their destination is uncompassionate and causes unnecessary additional discomfort; and

WHEREAS the human decency of aiding disabled Oregonians supersedes any hypothetical convenience of area residents; and

WHEREAS the State of Oregon should give its disabled citizens the care that they deserve which the state recognizes in several other aspects; and

WHEREAS the State of California allows those with Disabled Person Parking Permits to park in spots marked for residents without real detriment to the residents of the area*; and

WHEREAS a 2008 CRS Report for Congress stated that “federal regulations offer a uniform system of parking privileges…” including the “interstate reciprocity” of Disabled Person Parking Permits and “the federal government encourages states to adopt this uniform system.”**

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF OREGON THAT:

Section 1: Those with state-issued Disabled Person Parking Permits shall be allowed to park in spaces marked for “area parking,” “residential parking,” and other parking spaces of that kind.
