Through Trump’s first year in office, costs and unemployment rates have risen for Oregon families while health care has become even more expensive and federal immigration enforcement has wreaked havoc on communities
Portland, OR – Tonight, Donald Trump will give his first State of the Union address of this term. No matter how he tries to spin his failed economy and reckless immigration enforcement, Oregonians won’t be fooled — they know Trump will continue to make promises he does not intend to keep and try to deflect from just how disastrous his first year in office has been for working families across Oregon.
Trump has spent the past 13 months enriching himself and his circle of billionaire elites, while his failed economic agenda skyrockets costs for working families and destroys good-paying jobs in Oregon. Through 2025, Trump and Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill threatened to kick 210,000 Oregonians off their health care coverage and endangered SNAP benefits for 424,000 families across the state. Trump’s directive to masked federal agents to deploy dangerous and reckless tactics in Oregon hasn’t fared any better, leaving families and community members too scared to access essential health care services and driving them to avoid workplaces, schools, and public buildings.
By nearly every metric, Trump’s first year has been a complete disaster for Oregon. Oregonians will have the opportunity to hold Trump and his Republican enablers accountable in November, including GOP governor candidates Christine Drazan, Ed Diehl, and Chris Dudley.
Ahead of Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address, Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Nathan Soltz released the following statement:
“Tonight, Trump will try to pull the wool over Oregonians’ eyes — but we won’t fall for it. He promised a ‘golden age.’ What we got was the weakest economic growth in years and prices that keep climbing. While Republicans make promises they never intend to keep, Democrats will be fighting to lower costs, create jobs, protect health care for every Oregonian, and defend our neighbors no matter where they come from.”
