Portland, OR – Today, Donald Trump signed an illegal executive order attacking free and fair elections by restricting mail-in voting. This is a major escalation of his efforts to deny voting access ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
The executive order is the latest and most aggressive federal action by Trump to limit mail-in voting, following weeks of pressuring Republicans in Congress to pass his SAVE America Act.
“Trump and his allies see the writing on the wall. Republicans have lost seat after seat over the recent months in elections nationwide because of their toxic, cost-raising agenda, and they know the only way they stand a chance this November is by rigging our elections and taking away your right to vote,” said Candy Emmons, Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Oregon. “Oregon was the first state to vote by mail, and we have been doing so safely and securely for decades. Our message to Trump is clear: keep your hands off our fucking elections.”
