Oregon Democrats stand with workers as UFCW Local 555 calls for Fred Meyer boycott
PORTLAND — This weekend, United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 555 called on consumers to boycott, effective immediately, all Fred Meyer departments in Oregon and Southwest Washington where employees are now working without a labor contract. Oregon Democrats are responding to that call with steadfast and resolute support.
"Our union allies are on the front lines of the struggle for livable wages and better working conditions," said KC Hanson, chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon. "The Democratic Party of Oregon is proud to stand with workers from UFCW Local 555 in their fight for a fair contract."
The boycott affects 58 Fred Meyer locations in the region (see complete list here).
"This is an urgent moment," said Hanson. "After decades of Republican-led assaults on working people and a constant barrage of anti-worker policies from the Trump administration, now is the time to stand alongside these workers in solidarity and show that Democrats back up our words of labor support with action."
The next round of bargaining between UFCW Local 555 and Fred Meyer/Kroger is scheduled for September 26th and 27th.
