Republican governors join Governor Kate Brown in denouncing Kavanaugh, Buehler still silent Jeanne Atkins, Chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon, released the following statementThursday morning after the U.S. Senate heard testimony from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford about sexual assault allegations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh. “This morning, three Republican Governors from across the nation joined Oregon leaders in standing up to Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the highest court in the United States. Republican Governors Charlie Baker, Larry Hogan, and John Kasich have all called for independent investigations into the allegations facing Kavanaugh. They’re joining Democrats like Governor Kate Brown, Senator Ron Wyden, Senator Jeff Merkley, other Oregon leaders, and millions of Americans who have been clear and vocal in their opposition to Kavanaugh. His appointment to the Supreme Court poses a clear threat to health care and abortion rights nationwide. Meanwhile, Governor Brown’s opponent has remained silent. Despite repeated calls for him to take a stance, Knute Buehler has been silent on whether Kavanaugh should be seated. He has instead chosen to toe the party line and side with Donald Trump at a time when Roe v. Wade is hanging in the balance. Oregon voters should take note. There is only one pro-choice champion on the ballot this fall and it’s Governor Kate Brown. She has been steadfast in her support for women’s health and health care access for all Oregonians. And she has repeatedly called on the Senate to respect victims and hear their stories. Like Governor Brown, I believe Dr. Ford and agree that a Kavanaugh appointment poses a direct threat to women’s rights for decades to come.” ### |
