Buehler’s record in lockstep with GOP attack on Health Care, Choice

PORTLAND — With the fate of the Affordable Care Act at risk in federal courts and access to safe, legal abortion threatened under President Trump’s appointments to the Supreme Court, the Democratic Party of Oregon is again reminding voters of what’s at stake in this upcoming election.

"Voters have a choice between Governor Kate Brown, who stands up and defends Oregonians’ right to health care, and Knute Buehler, who would bring Trump’s Republican agenda on health care to Oregon," said Jeanne Atkins, Chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon.

Buehler’s record on health care is ripped from the Trump playbook:

  • Buehler voted against funding for Oregon’s Medicaid expansion, denying health care to thousands of families, including seniors and people with disabilities.
  • Planned Parenthood PAC of Oregon says Buehler would be a disaster for women's health care and that he plans to restrict access to essential women's health care. Buehler himself bragged about voting to restrict access to abortion.
  • In the year since Donald Trump has taken office, we've seen an assault on women's reproductive health care rights. Soon, we will be faced with a conservative Supreme Court that may take away a woman's right to choose. And when Buehler had a chance to defend a woman’s right to choose, he voted no.
  • Vice President Mike Pence says that if Republicans win in this year's elections they will repeal the Affordable Care Act, including cutting the Medicaid expansion that vulnerable Oregonians depend on. In 2017, Knute Buehler voted against Oregon’s Medicaid expansion; without funding, 430,000 Oregonians stood to lose their health insurance.

"Despite efforts to cover up his record, Buehler’s health care votes and proposals are straight out of the GOP’s plan for Oregon," said Atkins. "His record speaks for itself. Oregonians deserve to know the truth, and Knute Buehler should come clean about his votes against health care and choice in the Oregon Legislature."
