UPDATE: What’s Buehler Hiding? Radio silence from Buehler office on public records requests

PORTLAND — Despite radio silence from both the official and campaign offices of Rep. Knute Buehler, the Democratic Party of Oregon submitted another public records request today for information on Buehler’s legislative calendar.

“We submitted another request for records today, but we won’t be holding our breath while we wait for a response,” said Jeanne Atkins, Chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon. “As a public official, Buehler has an obligation to provide official legislative records to the public in a timely manner. In fact, as a gubernatorial candidate, one would think he’d already be prepared for these requests. We hope that this public pressure encourages Rep. Buehler to act swiftly to fulfill our requests — some of which have been languishing for more than six months.”

BACKGROUND:

Yesterday the Democratic Party of Oregon launched a new website highlighting Buehler’s resistance to transparency: www.whatsbuehlerhiding.com.

Under Oregon's Public Records Law (ORS 192.410 – 192.505) the public has the right to inspect and copy certain public records. In 2017, the Oregon Legislature approved several changes to public records law to improve access and transparency, including creating the position of Public Records Advocate. Buehler voted no on that bill.
