Democrats call on Buehler to release Oregon Right to Life questionnaire

October 31, 2017

PORTLAND — One week after Governor Kate Brown received endorsements from Oregon’s two major reproductive rights organizations, Planned Parenthood PAC of Oregon and NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon, Democrats are calling on Republican Knute Buehler to release his questionnaire responses to Oregon Right to Life, a radical organization that’s determined to restrict birth control and ban all abortion — even in cases of rape and incest.

“There is only one candidate for Governor who has received the support of anti-choice group Oregon Right to Life: Knute Buehler. In his three years as a legislator he had a single opportunity to vote on abortion access and he sided with Oregon Right to Life and voted no on HB 3391,” said Jeanne Atkins, chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon. “Oregonians deserve to know what Buehler has said to earn Oregon Right to Life’s past support.”

According to The Bend Bulletin, Buehler accepted support from Oregon Right to Life in his hotly contested State House race in 2014.

“Kate Brown is Oregon’s only pro-choice candidate for Governor,” said Atkins. “At a time when reproductive freedom is under attack, Buehler voted against the Reproductive Health Equity Act this past session. While Governor Brown proudly signed the law ensuring women in Oregon have access to birth control and family planning services, Buehler refused to take a stand against the Trump administration and is hewing the Republican line.”
