PORTLAND, Oregon (March 1, 2016) –

Today, the Democratic Party of Oregon officially began the process of selecting and sending 74 delegates to the 2016 Democratic National Convention, which will be held the week of July 25 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The DPO launched a website, dpo.org/2016convention, where starting today any Oregon Democrat interested in becoming a delegate can complete the required online filing form. The deadline to file is 5 p.m., May 20, 2016.

“Oregon Democrats are committed to sending a delegation to the national convention in Philadelphia that reflects the diversity of our great state. We’re committed to running a fair delegate selection process that’s open to any registered Democrat,” said Frank Dixon, Chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon.

On June 4, 2016, each of the state’s five congressional districts will hold conventions, electing 41 of the 74 delegates.

On June 18, 2016 the Democratic Party of Oregon will host a statewide convention where 20 remaining delegates, as well as alternate delegates, will be elected. There are also 13 automatic delegates.

Prior to district and statewide conventions, representatives of the Democratic Party of Oregon will fan out across the state to provide informative presentations and workshops about becoming a delegate. Community groups interested in hosting a presentation are encouraged to contact Ron Morgan (ron [at] dpo [dot] org) at Democratic Party of Oregon. The presentations will provide an overview of what it means to be a delegate, how to get elected and a preview of what to expect.
