PORTLAND, Oregon (May 19, 2014) –

Today, after Judge Michael McShane ruled that Oregon’s ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional, the Democratic Party of Oregon (DPO) released the following statement.

“Every loving, committed couple deserves the right to marry, and that right should be fundamental,” DPO Chair Frank Dixon said. “The judge made the right decision to take the stain of Measure 36 off of our Constitution. Oregon Democrats are thrilled that today we took another large step closer to equality for all Americans."

DPO Chair Frank Dixon was one of the founders of Veterans for Human Rights, an early LGBT war veterans group. Frank served on the Board of Directors of Right to Pride PAC in the 1990s. Frank became a Director of Basic Rights Oregon in 2002 for ten years, co-chairing the Board and PAC for several years; and later serving as co-interim Executive Director. In 2004, Frank organized and was the first President of the Democratic Party of Oregon GLBT Caucus.
