Today, Senate Republicans led by Mitch McConnell blocked a bill sponsored by Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour. Monica Wehby opposes raising the minimum wage, as well as the idea of a federal minimum wage. The Democratic Party of Oregon released the following statement after the vote.
“If Monica Wehby was in the Senate, she would vote in lock-step with Mitch McConnell blocking a raise for America," DPO Chair Frank Dixon said. "I know it may be hard for someone earning a million dollars a year to appreciate how tough it is to live on the minimum wage, but hundreds of thousands of Oregonians need that raise. Raising the minimum wage is the right thing to do, and while her opposition to a raise may make Mitch McConnell happy, it shows she’s wrong for Oregon.”
