Portland, Ore. (December 12, 2011) –

Today, the Democratic Party of Oregon officially notified Secretary of State Kate Brown of the three candidates nominated for the vacant Senate District 17 seat previously held by Suzanne Bonamici, now a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 1st Congressional District.

Democratic Precinct Persons (PCP) in the senate district held their nominating convention last night, voting unanimously at the outset to put forward three candidates. The PCPs then selected Rep. Chris Harker, Elizabeth Steiner Hayward and Paul Terdal in three rounds of voting.

“Suzanne Bonamici set a high bar for effective representation of this district,” said Trent Lutz, Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Oregon. “With these nominees, residents of Senate District 17 are assured of having another capable and committed advocate in Salem.”

The nominees will go forward for consideration by the Washington and Multnomah County Commissioners.
