Today, Oregon’s minimum wage will increase, improving life for over 100,000 workers and their families across the state. In recognition of this momentous news that will directly or indirectly impact the lives of every Oregonian, KC Hanson, Chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon, released the following statement:

“Six years ago, thanks to Governor Kate Brown and Democrats in the Oregon Legislature, Oregon passed a bill to carefully increase the Oregon minimum wage in a way tailored to different parts of the state. Today Oregonians will reap the rewards of Speaker Tina Kotek’s bold leadership and deep commitment to improving the lives of working families. We are lucky to have her as our Democratic nominee for governor, where she will do even more to bring prosperity and opportunity to Oregon families.

“Betsy Johnson opposed this minimum wage increase at the request of corporate lobbyists. She also opposed paid family leave, opposed earned sick leave, and even opposed expedited unemployment checks to school workers at the beginning of the pandemic. Likewise, Christine Drazan has consistently chosen to serve the interests of corporations rather than working families, from her time as a corporate lobbyist through her tenure in the legislature.

“It’s crystal clear that only one candidate for governor has the strength and vision to defend working families from corporations that try to exploit them. That candidate is Tina Kotek.”
