A new report from The Oregonian today details how Christine Drazan is putting her own politics ahead of defending our democracy as she refuses to condemn elections deniers because she needs to “lock down support from a GOP base that includes some voters sympathetic to Trump’s lie that he won the 2020 presidential election — including some party faithful who traveled to Washington, D.C. for the Jan. 6 rally to pressure Congress and then-Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the election.”

Throughout the report, the Oregonian highlights ties between Drazan and election deniers, noting:

  • Drazan “has refused to criticize one of Oregon’s most prominent Jan. 6 attendees, QAnon conspiracy believer and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Jo Rae Perkins, and Drazan’s campaign has embraced other Oregonians who attended the Jan. 6, 2020 rally that preceded the attack on the Capitol.”
  • “Drazan is getting a boost from local Republican Party chair Lisa Lamping… Lamping also flew to D.C. to participate in the Jan. 6 protest.”
  • “Drazan’s campaign invited another Jan. 6 attendee to stand as part of a group onstage for a packed rally Tuesday with Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin in Aurora: Josie Jepson Alexander, whose twin sister posted photos online of the pair celebrating on Christmas Day 2020, with the message, ‘We (are) going to DC ….. Trump told us to come!’”
  • “Drazan picked up an endorsement from her primary opponent, insurance executive and Sandy Mayor Stan Pulliam who has called the 2020 presidential election ‘fraudulent.’

HuffPost has previously reported how Drazan is “tying herself to violent extremists.”

KC Hanson, Chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon, said:

“The most extreme MAGA Republicans are backing Christine Drazan because they know she has their backs. She refuses to condemn the dangerous rhetoric of election deniers and supports their fraudulent, violence-provoking conspiracy theories. Once again, Drazan has shown Oregonians she’ll put her own political ambitions first even when it means undermining our democracy.”
