Portland, OR – Yesterday, GOP governor candidate Christine Drazan celebrated her endorsement from several conservative Republicans, including far-right extremist Alek Skarlatos, as she continues to move even further right in the increasingly messy and MAGA Republican primary.
Skarlatos is an anti-abortion extremist who said the Supreme Court should “go for it” on overturning Roe v. Wade and has a long history of controversial and offensive comments towards women. He’s also been tied to radical groups such as the Proud Boys and QAnon through his involvement with the anti-environmentalist group Timber Unity.
Skarlatos’ endorsement is the latest example of Drazan’s far-right affiliations and policy stances, including:
- Drazan’s strong anti-abortion views and previous endorsements from anti-abortion groups
- Drazan’s streak of skipping votes to protect Oregon from Trump’s reckless immigration and economic policies
- Drazan’s vocal support for Trump’s plans to end vote-by-mail both in Oregon and across the country
- Drazan’s lack of response to Trump’s reckless plans to mobilize the National Guard in Oregon
“At every opportunity to stand up and protect the values that matter to Oregonians, Drazan has chosen instead to side with Trump and MAGA enthusiasts,” said Candy Emmons, Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Oregon. “By bragging about an endorsement from a radical candidate who pushed to overturn Roe v. Wade and made disturbing comments about violence to women, Drazan is confirming once again that she is too extreme for Oregon.”
