Portland, OR — On Monday, the Oregon Republican Party announced that they would abandon their platform, and instead embrace the National Republican Party’s platform. That platform, adopted in 2024 during Donald Trump’s campaign for re-election, includes far-right extremist positions including:
- Stopping sanctuary cities
- Promoting a “Culture that values the Sanctity of Marriage”
- Restricting abortion rights
- Making it harder for people to vote, including ending vote-by-mail
- Creating a “Federal Task Force on Fighting Anti-Christian Bias”
Former Republican House leader Christine Drazan, who has previously tried to downplay her conservative positions, has so far declined to comment on whether she also supports these positions. However, she has previously supported similar policies, including:
- Voting against legislation that prohibits discrimination in education related to immigration or citizenship status.
- Proudly Accepting the endorsement of Oregon Right to Life, a radical anti-abortion group that opposes abortion without exceptions for rape, incest or health of the mother.
- Introducing legislation to completely overturn Oregon’s vote-by-mail system.
“Oregon Republicans like Christine Drazan are abandoning the issues that Oregonians care about to fight Donald Trump’s culture war,” said Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Nathan Soltz. “This is only the latest surrender to Trump and the MAGA movement, and moves Oregon Republicans further out of step with working Oregon families. Oregonians deserve a leader that will fight for them, not someone like Christine Drazan who will roll over and let Donald Trump dictate their priorities.”
