Oregon Leads the Charge to Strike Down Trump’s Reckless and Costly Tariffs

Feb 20, 2026

Trump calls the decision a “disgrace” – do Oregon GOP candidates for governor agree?

Portland, OR – This morning, the Supreme Court delivered relief to working families across the country by declaring Trump’s tariffs illegal – halting the President’s disastrous and unhinged trade war.

The lawsuit, led by Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield, highlighted how the tariffs functioned as a way to levy taxes against Americans. The tariff plan promised to revitalize the economy – in the end, it drove up costs, hurt the job market, and cost families across the county an additional $175 billion in higher costs last year.

Trump called the decision by the Supreme Court a “disgrace” and is already considering back-up plans to reinstate a 10% global tariff through a different authority. With a majority of voters believing that the economy is bad and getting worse, and with the courts clearly stating that the President does not have the legal authority, will the Republican candidates for Oregon governor support the Supreme Court’s decision or side with Trump’s plans to illegally reinstate the tariffs?

“The decision today by the Supreme Court is a major win for families across Oregon struggling to keep up with rising costs,” said Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Nathan Soltz. “Not only that, but it’s a clear testament that Trump’s tariffs were a disaster and an offense to the Constitution all along. We’re proud of Attorney General Dan Rayfield for leading this effort to put money back in the hands of Oregonians and families across the country. Every GOP candidate for Governor must answer whether they agree with Trump’s comments that the Court’s decision is a disgrace.”
