Portland, OR – Today marks the 16th anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the landmark healthcare law that 139,688 Oregonians relied on to afford their health care last year. However, thanks to Donald Trump and Republicans’ refusal to extend the lifesaving ACA enhanced tax credits, families across the country have dropped their health insurance in response to skyrocketing premiums – with Oregon seeing one of the largest ACA enrollment drops in the nation.
While Republicans refuse to extend these credits, Democrats are fighting to extend them and ensure Oregonians are not priced out of their health care. According to new polling, two-thirds of Americans say Congress did the wrong thing by not extending enhanced ACA subsidies, including one-third of Trump’s MAGA supporters.
A reminder: Trump and Republicans also slashed $1 trillion from Medicaid, putting four rural hospitals at risk of closure in Oregon and ripping health care away from 210,000 Oregonians.
“Donald Trump and Oregon Republicans have unleashed a health care crisis in Oregon. While Republicans are focused on supporting Trump’s illegal, reckless tariffs and a manufactured war in Iran that is costing American lives and increasing the cost of gas and other basics, Democrats are fighting to lower health care costs for hardworking Oregonians,” said Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Nathan Soltz. “Voters across Oregon are furious with this Republican health care crisis. Meanwhile, Oregon Democrats are focused on keeping Trump and his Republican allies accountable for making health care and other necessities unaffordable for Oregon families.”
