Portland, OR – Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Nathan Soltz issued the following statement in response to today’s Supreme Court ruling upholding state laws that discriminate against transgender youth in sports:

“Today’s decision by the Court’s right-wing extremist majority does not address fairness in sports, but instead singles out one group of kids for targeted exclusion. Blanket bans like these are rooted in discrimination, not safety. We need to be clear and unequivocal: that is repulsive.

“Trans athletes make up less than one-hundredth of one percent of student athletes, and in doing this, the Court is targeting the rights of some of our most marginalized friends and family. Oregon Democrats will never stop fighting the gross injustice and harm that continues to be perpetuated against the trans community, and will continue to stand with trans communities in the struggle for equal rights. We must resist these misguided and mean-spirited attacks by far-right justices who have politicized the judicial process.”
