Democratic Party of Oregon Elects New Leadership
CORVALLIS, OR – The Democratic Party of Oregon’s State Central Committee met Sunday in Corvallis to elect a new team of officers to lead the Party for the next two years.
“I am committed to doing everything I can every day to organize, fight, and win,” DPO Chair Nathan Soltz said. “People are being targeted by a corrupt, lawless presidential administration and Republican Party that undermines the U.S. Constitution daily. The most vulnerable in our communities and those who rely on policies Democrats support must be able to count on an organized, unified, and effective Democratic Party. The leadership and grassroots of our Party must be on the same page, and we must go all-in on boldly meeting this moment.
“I thank my predecessor, Dr. Rosa Colquitt, for her leadership over the last two years and for her longtime service to advancing the progressive cause in Oregon.”
Soltz, age 27, is the youngest State Party Chair elected in the DPO’s history. He originally began his involvement with the Party at age 17 in Jackson County, was elected State Party Secretary in 2023, and has worked as a staff member in the Oregon State Capitol for nearly a decade. A member and early organizer of the first-of-its-kind labor union representing legislative staff, IBEW Local 89, Soltz brings with him a combination of experience and the fresh perspective many Democrats across the country are calling for.
“As the son of an immigrant, the fiance of an immigrant, and as a queer, Jewish, person of color, this is personal. This is about my family and so many others who are connected in the struggle to achieve an equal and just world. Let’s organize, fight, and win together.”
The DPO also re-elected Eileen Kiely of Deschutes County and Kim Schmith of Jefferson County as its Vice Chairs, and elected Jesse Maldonado of Lane County as Secretary. Photos of the four officers can be found here.
