Portland, OR – As abortion access continues to face attacks from Trump and MAGA supporters, newly nominated GOP candidate Christine Drazan is still in lockstep with Trump and his administration on restricting reproductive rights and rolling back abortion access for Oregonians.
In March, Drazan proudly bragged about her endorsement from radical anti-abortion group Oregon Right to Life, which opposes abortion even in cases of rape, incest, or health of the mother, opposes other forms of contraception, and other reproductive rights such as IVF. Oregon Right to Life also endorsed Drazan in her failed 2022 gubernatorial campaign.
Just last month, a federal district judge sided with Oregon Right to Life, the state’s most radical anti-abortion group, in their attacks on Oregon’s landmark Reproductive Health Equity Act, stating that big insurance companies shouldn’t be required to cover abortions and contraception. This month, many Americans lost and then temporarily re-gained mail delivery access to mifepristone, an FDA-approved prescription medication that is often prescribed via telehealth providers.
Meanwhile, Drazan supported the Supreme Court decision that allowed states to ban abortion in all cases and said she would oppose codifying the right to abortion access in Oregon. At a time when women’s freedom to control their bodies is at risk, Drazan can’t be counted on to protect women’s reproductive health care.
“Oregonians have reaffirmed time and time again that strong reproductive rights and access to abortion need to be protected,” said Candy Emmons, Executive Director. “Democrats leaders across the state, including Governor Tina Kotek, have fought hard to ensure those protections are in place. The last thing Oregon needs is a Trump-aligned, anti-abortion candidate like Christine Drazan to step in and remove the very protections that Oregonians have been defending for years.”
