LISTEN: Biden-Harris 2024 Holds Press Call in Response to Trump’s VP Selection of J.D. Vance
This afternoon, Biden-Harris 2024 hosted a press call featuring Campaign Chair Jen O’Malley Dillon, National Advisory Board Member Senator Elizabeth Warren, President of Reproductive Freedom for All Mini Timmaraju, and Executive Director of Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights Dr. Lauren Beene in response to Donald Trump selecting J.D. Vance as his running mate.
If elected, Vance will enable Trump to turn his extreme Project 2025 dreams into a reality. He praises the radical playbook as full of “good ideas,” supports a national abortion ban while criticizing exceptions for rape or incest, wants to slash Social Security and Medicare, and repeatedly denies the results of a free and fair election.
Trump selecting J.D. Vance as his running mate underscores just how extreme and harmful a second term would be for Trump and his MAGA allies. J.D. Vance is the poster child for MAGA extremism – and he must be defeated at the ballot box this November.

“Trump picked JD Vance as his running mate because he will do what Mike Pence wouldn’t on January 6: bend over backwards to enable Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda, even if it means breaking the law, and certainly no matter the harm to the American people. He’s wholeheartedly endorsed Trump’s, and I guess we’d say Trump’s and Vance’s Project 2025 agenda, saying it is full of ‘good ideas.’ He’s proudly anti-choice and wants to take women back decades. He supports a nationwide ban on abortion, criticizes exceptions for rape and incest survivors, saying ‘two wrongs don’t make a right’ and calling those circumstances ‘inconvenient.’ He’s railed against the Affordable Care Act and its protections for millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions…And he’s called Social Security and Medicare ‘the biggest roadblocks to any kind of real fiscal sanity,’” said Jen O’Malley Dillon. “The bottom line is that Trump and now Vance’s Project 2025 would hurt hard-working Americans… So with Trump and Vance now entering the general election, they’re facing off against the Biden-Harris ticket and I will certainly take that matchup any day of the week and twice on Sunday.”
Asked about Vice President Harris debating Vance, Senator Elizabeth Warren said: “The VP will take it to JD Vance. I’ve known her for nearly 15 years, while she’s been in every kind of fight on behalf of working families, and she is strong. She knows what she’s talking about and she doesn’t give an inch. And she has the better end of the argument — when Kamala stands up to argue she will be arguing in favor of protecting Social Security and Medicare. She will be arguing in favor of protecting access to health insurance. She will be arguing in favor of making sure that we have infrastructure and strong unions. She will be arguing in favor of raising taxes for billionaires and giving real relief to middle-class families. So the debate is going to have two parts to it. It’s how strong our Vice President is and how good her economic issues are. I’m looking forward to this debate.”
“When Donald Trump and JD Vance celebrate overturning Roe, they’re celebrating every single cruel abortion ban across the country, many of which have no exceptions for rape or incest. And, at the end of the day, we always knew Trump would pick someone just as committed to taking away reproductive freedom. But now that it’s official, it couldn’t be more clear. Donald Trump and JD Vance would further roll back our rights to make our own health care decisions. And President Biden and Vice President Harris are the only candidates who will protect a woman’s right to choose,” said Mini Timmaraju. “While Donald Trump and Vance are running to ban abortion in all 50 states, President Biden and Vice President Harris are unrelenting in their mission to make sure women in America can make their own health care decisions. That is what’s going to be on the ballot this November and we’re going to continue to make sure every single voter knows it.”
“You all may remember reports of a 10-year-old Ohioan girl who, after being raped, was forced to leave our state to get the abortion care she needed. I knew I wasn’t the only Ohioan who was horrified by MAGA Republicans’ anti-reproductive freedom agenda. So we organized, mobilized and won, passing a constitutional amendment to protect abortion and restore reproductive rights. JD Vance called our victory ‘a gut punch.’ A 10-year-old rape victim couldn’t receive an abortion in her state, but somehow that gut punch was us voting to restore access to reproductive health care? Well that gut punch proved to America that voters will not stand by as MAGA Republicans threaten our rights and freedoms. And it proved that slashing reproductive health care, like Trump’s Project 2025 agenda would do, is a losing agenda in red states and blue states alike,” said Dr. Lauren Beene. “And today, as JD Vance joins the MAGA Republican ticket, here’s another thing that is critically important to remember: If it had been up to JD Vance, Issue One would have never passed in Ohio. And importantly, if it is up to JD Vance, he will rip away all of this progress because he and Donald Trump will ban abortion nationwide if given the chance.”
