Defend Oregon plans big grass-roots effort on tax referenda

SUNRIVER-Kevin Looper, the executive director of Defend Oregon was at the Democratic Party conference Saturday building his campaign to support the $733 million tax package that will go before Oregon voters on Jan. 26.

Of course, the organizations on both sides of the two tax measures plan extensive advertising campaigns.  But Democrats and other liberal groups have also built a strong get-out-the-vote machine in this state – it’s one reason they win so many candidate elections – and they’re working hard to deploy it again in the coming months.

"These [progressive] groups are really good at doing the hard work of the door knocking and the phone calling that it takes," said Looper after leading a strategy session for attendees at the party summit.
