Portland, OR – Four years ago today, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending the federal right to abortion and allowing states to ban abortion in all cases. Since then, Donald Trump has escalated his efforts to restrict reproductive rights and roll back abortion access for Oregonians – and GOP gubernatorial nominee Christine Drazan remains in lockstep with his destructive agenda.
While Oregonians peacefully took to the streets to demand abortion remain legal and accessible following the Dobbs decision, Drazan applauded it and said she would oppose codifying the right to abortion access in Oregon.
Drazan’s campaign is endorsed by Oregon Right to Life, the state’s most radical anti-abortion group, which opposes abortion even in cases of rape, incest, or the health of the mother and opposes access to contraception and IVF. Just this spring, a federal judge sided with Oregon Right to Life in its attack on Oregon’s landmark Reproductive Health Equity Act, and Oregonians temporarily lost mail access to mifepristone, an FDA-approved medication. Oregon Right to Life also endorsed Drazan in her failed 2022 gubernatorial campaign.
At a time when women’s freedom to control their bodies is at risk, Drazan can’t be counted on to protect women’s reproductive health care.
“Four years after the fall of Roe v. Wade, Oregonians are living with the consequences of a Supreme Court and a national Republican Party determined to take away the right to abortion,” said Candy Emmons, Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Oregon. “While Christine Drazan lines up behind Trump and the extremist Republicans working to end abortion access nationwide, Oregon Democrats, including Governor Tina Kotek, are laser-focused on keeping reproductive healthcare care safe, legal, and within reach. Drazan has spent her career trying to drag us backward, and Oregon women won’t forget it this November.”
