Disability Justice Caucus

Dear Caucus Members,

The DPO has decided to move the 3rd Quarter SCC Weekend from In-person to virtual.  Most caucuses will not be meeting that weekend and The Disability Justice Caucus (DJC) will now hold its reorganization meeting on Sunday September 26th at 11am.

Caucus Election information. The DJC officer positions are the Chair, a Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Legislative Director, Communications Director; and Member elected At-Large and they will serve a two-year term. The DJC SCC Delegate is the Caucus Chair, the Vice Chair is the alternate SCC delegate, and the Secretary is the second alternate delegate. The Chair, Vice-Chair, and two other Officers shall be individuals with disabilities as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The ADA defines a person with a disability as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity. This includes people who have a record of such an impairment, even if they do not currently have a disability. It also includes individuals who do not have a disability but are regarded as having a disability.

Candidate Information/Nominations. Per our bylaws, nominations open 72 hours before the election. If you’re running for an officer position and you want your name and a brief statement to be included in the email, please reply to this email with your name, position title, and if you are running for Chair or Vice Chair you will need to state that you’re a person with disabilities as defined by the ADA. You’re also welcome to include a very brief (300 words or less) candidate statement. I’ll send out all candidate information out the day before the Caucus meeting. Candidates may also be nominated from the floor.
