The Democratic Party of Oregon (DPO) seeks an experienced, dynamic communications professional to strengthen the Democratic Party’s message through earned media, social media, and rapid response efforts. The ideal applicant will have excellent writing and editing skills, experience developing and executing media strategies, and a proven ability to build strong relationships with reporters, press outlets and groups.
Location: Portland, currently working remotely under COVID restrictions
Developing and executing an aggressive, long-term media strategy; drafting and editing news releases; responding to media inquiries; working with the DPO Chair as the Party spokesperson and serving as on-the-record spokesperson as needed; pitching stories to local and national media; working with groups and partners to advance communications goals; and organizing press events. The Communications Director reports to the Coordinated Campaign Director, and will work in conjunction with top statewide elected Democrats, including the Governor, both U.S. Senators, and the Democratic team to implement messaging and strategy for the election cycle. May be asked to do other campaign or party related duties as assigned.
- At least two cycles of campaign communications experience
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and partners, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet goals and deadlines
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to manage researcher staff and interns
- Basic HTML a plus

This is a full-time exempt position, available immediately. Benefits include, but are not limited to, healthcare coverage. Salary is commensurate with experience, and begins at $4291/mo. This position is represented by IUPAT District Council 5. Staff will receive a stipend for phone and internet access while working remotely, and required computer technology will be provided.
